Melissa Owen - Owner / Lead Baker
Prior to becoming a baker, Melissa attended the University of Oregon and studied Fine Art Photography. She has lived around the globe including Greece, Bahrain and Egypt. Melissa attended culinary school at Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts in Vancouver, BC and worked at several bakeries in Vancouver including the Vancouver Art Gallery Cafe. In 2006 she relocated to Nelson and started Epiphany Cakes. Melissa loves pugs, ceramics, sunshine, photography, camping and flipping through cookbooks. She has been gluten-free for over a decade and is passionate about developing delicious GF recipes for the bakery. When she is not at work, Melissa can be found staying cozy and hanging out with her family. Melissa’s first cookbook, Epiphany Bakes (TouchWood Editions) is now available at bookstores everywhere.
Ysauld de Montigny - Production Manager
Ysauld is our Production Manager. She grew up across the street from Epiphany Cakes and did a bit of work with us when she was a teenager. Before starting work at Epiphany, she studied Culinary Arts at Selkirk College and spent a few years in New Zealand working as a baker and pastry chef. Her interests include snowboarding, hiking, birdwatching, and quilting, and pottery.
Abigail Rice - Baker
Abigail moved to Nelson after completing her studies at UBC. She joined the Epiphany baking team in 2024 and has brought a lot of fun, fresh ideas. Outside of work, Abigail loves ceramics, skiing and a good book.
Jashandeep Singh - Customer Service
Jashandeep is our friendly face at the Cake Window, and he does a ton to help us out behind the scenes including packaging, organizing, and prep work. Jashan started working at Epiphany in 2024. Originally from Punjab, he came to Canada to attend the Hospitality program at Selkirk College. He has a passion for spending time in the kitchen. In his spare time, Jashan enjoys hiking and exploring the local area.
